Reigning Masters Champion Garcia, Race to Dubai Champion Fleetwood and Asian Tour Professional Chia to serve as brand ambassadors for Zurich Insurance

Zurich, Switzerland (January 16, 2018) – Zurich Insurance Group (Zurich), Title Sponsor of the PGA TOUR’s Zurich Classic of New Orleans, has named Sergio Garcia and Tommy Fleetwood as the newest members of the Zurich Golf Ambassadors Program. Garcia, a Spaniard currently tenth in the Official World Golf Rankings, captured his first career major at the 2017 Masters Tournament. Fleetwood, an Englishman currently eighteenth in the Official World Golf Rankings, won the European Tour’s 2017 Race to Dubai in a breakout season. In addition, Asian Tour Professional Danny Chia, has joined the team with a focus on efforts specifically in the Malaysian market.

The Zurich Golf Ambassadors Program has helped Zurich expand its reach globally in golf far beyond the Zurich Classic to engage with customers, brokers, employees and others. Garcia, Fleetwood and Chia will join Ambassadors Jason Day, Justin Rose, Lexi Thompson, Jamie Donaldson and Billy Horschel. In 2018, Billy, Jamie, Justin, and Lexi will continue to sport the Zurich logo on their apparel, while Jason, Jamie, Sergio, Tommy, and Danny will carry Zurich branded golf bags throughout their season.

“We are proud to team up with such passionate, exceptional golfers.” said Giovanni Giuliani, Group Chief Strategy, Innovation and Business Development Officer. “Our involvement in this sport enables us to support the passion of many of our customers, brokers and employees and build an emotional connection between our audiences and our brand.”

Garcia has won 32 world-wide professional events, including the Masters Tournament in 2017 and THE PLAYERS Championship in 2008. He is an eight-time Ryder Cup participant and currently ranks 5th all-time in points earned for the European Team. With a focus to give back to charity, he started the Sergio Garcia Foundation in 2002 to contribute to the social inclusion of economically deprived children and youth through golf and social assistance benefits.

“I admire Zurich’s commitment to golf and charity and their innovation with the team format in New Orleans,” said Sergio Garcia. “I look forward to working with them to help differentiate Zurich amongst their customers, brokers, and the communities they serve.”

Originally from England, Fleetwood turned pro in 2010 after a distinguished amateur career, where he once held the number one world ranking. In July 2017, Fleetwood broke into the Official World Golf Ranking’s top-20 for the first time in his professional career. After a successful season featuring two victories, Fleetwood captured the 2017 Race to Dubai title, edging out fellow Zurich Ambassador Justin Rose.

“I’m excited to join Sergio, Danny, Justin, Jason, Billy, Jamie, and Lexi as a Zurich Ambassador,” Tommy Fleetwood said. “And to work with a company that has provided exemplary support to this sport for several years.”

Asian Tour Professional Danny Chia, has joined the team with a focus on efforts specifically in the Malaysian market. Danny is a history-maker for Malaysia. He is the first Malaysian to hold multiple victories on the Asian Tour and represented Malaysia during the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. In 2010, he became the first player from his country to play in all four rounds at the British Open at St. Andrews.

“It is an honor to represent Zurich as a brand ambassador and to help them spread their message in Malaysia,” Danny Chia said. “Zurich is an established and strong organization who do so much for the game of golf and for the people in Malaysia. I am really looking forward to working with them”.
